Crunchy Candied Hazelnuts

For some extra crunchy goodness to sprinkle on a dessert like Hearts Full of Sweetness or as a crunchy treat on top of bananas and fudge sauce, try this simple process! Roasting the hazelnuts really brings out the flavour and adding a dash of salt makes these brilliant!

Instructions
  1. Heat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Toast hazelnuts in the oven for a few minutes, until nuts taste toasty. This only takes a few minutes. Watch to make sure they don't burn.
  3. In a pot, add your toasted nuts and 1/2 cup white sugar and 2 Tablespoons of water (with a little red food colouring for Valentine's Day sparkle!)
  4. Stir over medium heat until sugar melts, sticks to the nuts and crystalizes. Stir constantly.
  5. Turn out onto a piece of parchment paper to cool. While still warm, sprinkle with a little salt to bring out some great flavour!
  6. Chop these up a little and sprinkle where desired, or just eat whole! Enjoy!
