Baked Applesauce Doughnuts
Applesauce keeps these baked doughnuts moist and flavourful. Dip them in a chocolate hazelnut ganache, sprinkle with some toasted hazelnuts, and enjoy!
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. and grease your doughnut pan well.
Combine your flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
Combine your wet ingredients in a different bowl, and whisk together well.
Stir the dry and wet ingredients together until just combined. You don't want to overmix these.
Carefully spoon the batter into six well-greased doughnut molds. Clean off any spills.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for about 15-18 minutes or until golden. Make sure that they are cooked through by putting a toothpick into one and it comes out clean.
Let sit in the pan for a minute to set and then turn out onto a cooling rack. Let these get cool before icing.
Easy Chocolate Hazelnut Ganachee
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the topping ingredients together on high, 30 seconds at a time, and stir until smooth. (One minute will probably be enough.)
When your doughnuts are cool, carefully dip the top of each doughnut into the ganache. If you are adding the chopped hazelnuts, sprinkle them on to the ganache while it is still warm.
Decorating
Chop a few roasted hazelnuts and lightly salt them. Sprinkle on the doughnuts, as desired. They add a lovely taste, texture, and some extra nutrition!
Find that elusive creature, the vegan graham "teddy/groundhog" cookie and put one in the center of his chocolatey burrow! Enjoy!
